My mother w
as a potter and had a home teaching studio in Pretoria. My first love was always working with clay.
I completed a BA at UCT in Social Anthropology and Comparative African Languages (Sesotho) in 1979. I worked as a decorator at Kolonyama Pottery in Lesotho for one year, and at Mapepe Crafts as a decorator and studio manager for one year. In 1983 I studied Ceramic Science part time at the Witwatersrand Technikon while teaching decorating, making domestic ware and starting up my own craft shop in Midrand called “By Hand”.
In 1985 I got married and sold the shop. My husband and I traveled in North America and Europe for a year before returning to Cape Town and starting a family while making pottery and selling at markets and to shops. In 1995 we moved permanently to Hout Bay, Cape Town and I started my own production and teaching studio.
I supplied LIM, Future Classics, Africa Nova, Congo Joe, Kirstenbosch Shop amongst others. I have been teaching children and adults full-time for the last 15 years and I also run holiday workshops on specialized techniques.
