MAD New York visits ART in the FOREST -March 2011

In March 2011, the MUSEUM OF ART AND DESIGN NEW YORK hosted a group of patrons on a cultural tour of South Africa in celebration of ‘The Global Africa Project’ exhibition. Hosted by Director, Holly Hotchner as well as Co-Curators of exhibition, Lowery Sims and Lesley King-Hammond, MAD’s visit to South Africa was centered on visits to many of the studios of artists represented as well as a deep look at the rich culture of artisanship in the country.

The Light From Africa Foundation was delighted to be selected as not only an art project to be highlighted to the group, but also as hosts when our ART HUB in Cecilia Forest was selected as a dinner venue for the group.  MAD New York were introduced to the Light From Africa vision whilst experiencing Cape Town at its aesthetic best!  Surrounded by works by the leading South African ceramic artists, the group enjoyed a breathtaking sunset over the peninsula followed by dinner in the gallery at ART IN THE FOREST.

Guests were treated to a fine array of fresh seasonal cuisine prepared by Cath and Norma (The Great Cooks) whilst chatting to local artists and art dealers before having an opportunity to shop for handmade treasures in the gallery and boutique above.
